Privacy Policy
Plain and simple.
TabSafe is built on a simple principle: your browsing data belongs to you. We collect only what's necessary to make the extension work. We never sell, share, or analyze your data.
What we collect
When you use TabSafe with cloud sync enabled, we store the following data in Firebase Firestore under your Google account:
- Tab URLs and page titles from sessions you explicitly save
- Session names, tags, and pin status that you set
- Your Google account email and display name — used only for authentication
- Timestamps of when sessions were created or modified
This data is stored solely to provide the sync and web dashboard features. It is never used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than displaying your sessions back to you.
What we don't collect
- Your full browsing history — we only save tabs you explicitly choose to save
- Passwords, form data, or page content
- Your location or device identifiers
- Analytics, usage tracking, or behavioral data
- Any data from tabs you haven't saved
We do not use any third-party analytics tools (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, nothing). We have no idea how many times you open the popup, which features you use, or how long you spend in the extension.
Local Only mode
TabSafe gives you full control over which sessions go to the cloud and which stay entirely on your device.
Sessions marked as Local Only are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage. They are never sent to Firebase, never visible in the web dashboard, and never accessible from another device.
If you move a session from Cloud to Local Only, it is permanently deleted from Firebase — no traces remain on our servers.
Sessions marked for cloud sync are stored in Firebase Firestore and are accessible from the web dashboard and any device where you sign in with the same Google account.
You can also disable cloud sync entirely from Settings — all new sessions will be Local Only by default.
Firebase & Google
TabSafe uses Firebase (a Google product) for authentication and cloud storage. When you sign in with Google, Firebase handles authentication — we never see or store your Google password.
Your data is stored in Firebase Firestore, which is subject to Google's infrastructure security standards. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit by Firebase.
Firebase's own privacy policy applies to data processed through their infrastructure. You can review it at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Free account limits
TabSafe is free and we intend to keep it that way. To ensure reliable performance for everyone, free accounts have the following limits:
- 100 cloud sessions — sessions beyond this limit are saved locally only. Delete old sessions or mark them as Local Only to free up space.
- 3 active shared links — you can have up to 3 shared session links active at the same time. Delete one to create a new one.
- 500 tabs per session — a single session can contain up to 500 tabs.
- 6 months cloud retention — sessions older than 6 months in the cloud may be flagged for review. You will be notified before any data is affected.
These limits exist to protect the service and keep it free for everyone.
Your rights
You have full control over your data at all times:
- Access — all your data is visible directly in the extension and web dashboard
- Delete sessions — delete any session and it's removed from Firebase immediately
- Delete your account — contact us and we will permanently delete all data associated with your account from Firebase within 30 days
- Export — use the built-in JSON export to download a complete copy of your data at any time
- Go local — switch all sessions to Local Only and disable cloud sync — your data will no longer be stored on our servers
Children
TabSafe is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify users through the extension. Continued use of TabSafe after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
We will never change this policy in a way that reduces your privacy protections without explicit notice.
